I'm in a tough spot. On the one hand, the style of communication I favor most is directness and honesty. On the other hand, I don't want to disrespect an attempt to spotlight Long Island high school baseball or any of the kids whose names were listed as "players to watch" or "rising stars." Let's see how well Mr. Sarra's picks stand up to the test of time. I am curious to know what inputs were used in the evaluation process to creating the list.

You know if Newsday had printed the bottom 100 players people would come on here and complain that their kid didn't make the list this is Long Island Baseball at it's best. Next year they should produce a list complied by coaches 100 most annoying and delusional parents

Was your son left off the list. So what -- it's a list to get players names out there. If you have a problem call him up and tell him who he missed. He probably missed some guys, we all would. It's not an easy thing to do. Instead of enjoying that baseball is being exposed, whether it's 10, 20 or 50 or more players -- there's always someone with a complaint. Classic line from the guy with the bottom 100. You can't make everyone happy. But if you call Greg up and state your case, I'm sure he'd go out of his way to make it right. Still love that bottom 100 -- guy's right

There is just same nasty people out there! I'm glad you liked the bottom 100 post but the scary part that makes it funny is that it is not to far from the truth. Yikes
Any kind of reporting should be accurate. Should it not? He clearly sees what he wants to see, and has always favored certain leagues and programs, and has visibly disregarded others.
"But if you call Greg up and state your case, I'm sure he'd go out of his way to make it right. Still love that bottom 100 -- guy's right" Surely you jest!
In baseball terms, if you stray too far off base you run the risk of getting picked off. After being slap-tagged out, Greg needs to pick himself up, dust himself off, then go back to the bench and figure out what he did wrong. If his misrepresentation of the baseball talent in my town is an indication, his love for the sport is not matched by well-researched reporting.

Newsday coverage of all sports , save lacrosse and football , blows . When I was in school they gave team by team breakdowns mentioning 4-5 kids from every team . I know one kid who was all-county and didn't get more than a name drop until playoffs . Many people were dissed but it won't be rectified . I guess we are lucky they still print a paper. MSG varsity ( tv ) does a great job instead .

What a bunch of crap Spanky or Anonymous OK call me SpankyII whats the difference he isn't using his real name either and he just trashed Gregg Sarra in a public forum. So if you want to put your money where you mouth is give your REAL NAME not spanky in whatever brilliant response you will have for me.
"and he just trashed Gregg Sarra in a public forum"
And so what? Is Gregg not reporting and putting things out their in a public forum via the newspaper. He's infamous for being partial to certain people and overlooking other's who are well deserving. Not just in baseball either. It cannot even be taken seriously anymore. And I am not only talking about individual players. He tototally omits and blatanly disregards well respected programs, all the time.

What a bunch of BS? Come on get real. How about a few facts to back up your venom. BTW, be careful, defamation of character is a serious offense. You're just an anonymous poster afraid to put his name to his rant. Who does he disregard, what programs? There were some good players that weren't mentioned, happens in every sport, all the time? You're just another coward on a website, terrified to reveal his identity. BTW, who's a well-respected program that gets no love? You're another laughable loser in cyberspace. Spanky from the Little Rascals and Carnival for a classic clown.

You know what I called Gregg today because I was wondering one how he deals with this garbage and asked what the process was all about.
FACT #1- Did you know EVERY HS coach on LI both public and privaye gets a survey from Newsday? can you guess how many fill it out and return it? 40% thats right 40% so 60% of your HS coaches don't even bother to turn in the info on your kids.
FACT #2- Did you know that every major BB organization can forward input on players and when they do ND will fact check it and if the info flushes out the player is considered
You kow how many organizations out there do this just a handful so when you fork ouver your three K to play for some of these guys know your paying for his truck payment not the BS he tells you about how he will promote and get your kids name out there.
FACT #3 Gregg admitted to me that no list is perfect and that if a kid was missed or a kid goes on fire they will follow up with stories and even in the Catholic HS section a big section was left out about ST Dom which he said would be corrected.
Maybe rather than sit at your keyboard and talk crap you can call and do some research for yourself.
Maybe instead of being on every page of this message board and talking as of you are the Oracle of truth and know everything about everything you should put your money where your mouth is one Use your real name when you slam a person and two how about this you come up with a list of 100 players and post it here with your name for public view and then sit there while people not only pick apart your list but also question your integrity and character.
Your most likely fathers is this the example you set for your children, this is the garbage about every kid is an "all star" and everyone should make the playoffs and everyone should get a trophy well you know what keep setting your kid up for the big one when he applies to his college of choice and doesn't get in or doesn't get the job of his choice or whatever REAL LIFE has to offer hom and he can't handle due to fact all thru life everything was handled for him.
Grow up read your posts you sound younger then the children you talk about and like Chevy Chase said in Christmas Vacation Amen where the godamm Tylonol!

This is Gregg Sarra. I am not a registered user on this site. I received a call this morning in regard to this thread. And I never respond to anonymous posts but I felt it was important to respond here in a simple way. Anyone who feels like they were left out of the baseball preview should call or email me. I return all calls and all mail with a name. The preview lists will never be spot on. There could have been 125 kids on the list -- but we have to cap it somewhere. There will always be disagreement. That's why we print them to engage in lively discussion about who was in and who was out. And we can pick up on other good stories through the banter. You don't have to agree with the list, but tell me why, and maybe there's an interesting story we're missing. But to generically claim I have issue with some towns in totally untrue. A poster or two, made it personal, took a couple of cheap shots and hid behind screen names -- that's an easy thing to do. No facts to back up the generic statements. Others felt compelled to speak up. I appreciate that, but it was unnecessary. I'm not always right, but I do put in the effort and most know it. If you want to discuss it, I can be reached at gsarra@cablevision.com or at the office Wednesday after 10 a.m. at 516-803-9449.
There is no reason why people can't voice their opinions on the website, so long as they stay within the guidelines. If anyone doesn't like my stated point of view or the number of times I've posted entries, TOO BAD. My comments have been "subject-related." The stupidity of recommending a trip to Cancun and the emotional rants and idle threats of lawsuits brings out feelings of embarrassment, for you. You're beginning to get unhinged like Charlie Sheen.

Spanky I'm not embarresed by anything why would I be. You feel a need to comment on everything and every subject on this message board, why is that? You like I said are a weird dude its funny.
If you can't see the humor in watching grown men act so child like then you have no sense of humor.
Come on a list of bottom 100 players thats funny stuff, the suggestion that you take a vaction is funny its my way of telling you relax dud life is short its a list you are making a huge issue over a list.
I wasn't the post talking lawsuits but I was the guy talking about every kids gets a trophy.
What does that list even mean in the end 100 kids out of the 3000 that play school ball got a mentioned becasue someone answered a survey or picked up the phone.
My son wasn't on the list a few years ago and he went on to get signed and play at a D1 school. Should I have lost it and trashed the guy who published the list as being corrupt. Who's unhinged think about that.
Why can you have an Opinion and if I disagree I'm wrong? I never said you were wrong really I just thought you needed a vacation.
Relax life is short I'll buy the first Corona come on! Have a little fun its BASEBALL SEASON BABY!!!!

A .320 average on the Varsity is just that....Average. Hit at least .400 to begin the conversation as to who is to watch. Unless he is a remarkable pitcher.

Who is saying anything about kids getting drafted or going D1?? We are talking about unbiased, factual representation-not sure why this presents such a problem for some.
For the poster(s) who are constantly reminding other's that they are hiding behind a computer screen and posting anonymous yet they are doing the same thing, proves how ridicilous many people are.

Is it really that important to have your kids name out there? If the kid is great it will show. Wouldn't it be more satisfying for a kid that wasn't mentioned, to outperform players that were highlighted? Accolades happen on the field. Its a complete joke when BPM names a preseason MVP let the kids play it will all shake out in the end.
I can understand why this website's administrators occasionally place restrictions against Anonymously placed entries. Each thread is subject-based and they work well when everyone shares their opinions and/or insights. Unfortunately (see Exhibit A above), some individuals take pleasure in playing the role of voyeuristic parasite. They lurk in the darkness of anonymity and then feed off of the comments of others.

It is actually to a players advantage to fly under the radar if you ask me. less pressure. My kid always has and has done well.

Not for nothing but there's probably a 100 high schools or around that many in Nassau or Suffolk Counties, I'm sure G.S. didnt get to watch all the schools play and probably asked the coaches inputs and various baseball camps to input who they thought was the best--like he said there probably was another 50 that probably didnt make the list. If your kid is that good the scouts will find him, if not just enjoy it for what its worth and dont put any more pressure on his performance then he already has. It only lasts 4 years for probably 90% of the kids out there, and their next game will be w/ a softball bat and his college buddies. Relax and enjoy these years-they'll be gone in a wink.

Spanky this si Spank II, I don't know what post you were referencing above but this thread started because you think Gregg Sarra made a list the on purpose let out schools and players not only calling into quesion he intergity but his very character.
He personally posted on the thread because I advised him of the garbage that was being said by people like you.
You say people lurk in the corners using the Anonymous call tag. How is Spanky and differnt from Anonymous? You are not coming on here and say hello this is John Smith you are using a code name and there is no differnce.
My question to you was a simple on why do you feel the need to one comment on every subject on the message board, two when you do, you take this I know every detail about everything and I know better then everyone else attitude and three when you get attacked like you attacked Gregg you get all pissy and talk about staying on topic. The thread is give me a break which started about the list and all we are talking about is your feelings and your rights.
You have the right to do whatever and say whatever you want just don't trash people and think you are going to get away with it and not get called out yourself.
My suggestion you take a vacation is about if I want to read the Spanky blog give me the site, I come on here from time to time to see of theres any info I can use to run my organization and if there is any news on kids or teams.
I don't come on here to see you posting your opinions on every subject. Seems like you have a lot of time thats all. It was meant as a joke and you obviously don't have a sense of humor nor another hobby. A little bit of both would go a long way.
Mr. Anonymous, you are a very confused person. Everyone can go back to read the initial thread comment made by a poster named Carnaval. Three posts later you can see my response. If comments like these send you into a Charlie Sheen styled meltdown, whose the one with the deep-seated problems.

Mr. Anonymous, how many posts have you made specifically. Why are you afraid to identify your posts? Maybe they should ban all posters, except for you. Every time I point to one of your many incongruent remarks, you evcuse yourself by trying to pass it off as a "joke." You're like a broken record.

Someone should let 90% of the travel coaches in on this!!!! There are some that wouldn't get that message if you force-fed it to them. Some of these guys are so full of themselves that they will never be happy until they win every game by mercy, and go undefeated in every tournament. If this is you, wake up before you have no friends, and when the reality of your son note making it to the major leagues finally hits, you come crashing down wondering what went wrong!
