I'm just trying to get an idea on the cost of travel ball around the Island and what is included for that price. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Every organization and individual team is different. Depends on the cost of the league they register in, type of uniforms and required equiptment (some teams want you to buy everything matching), some teams hire formal paid coaching staffs, workout and conditioning costs vary, etc, etc. Price range is huge.

And coaches make money off of this stuff too. Dont believe for a second that they dont. Theres nothing wrong with it but just call it what it is. They do all the legwork so there entitled to some profit. how much? depends on team and parents pocketbooks. I've heard of teams making an extra $900 per player on top of what it costs for uniforms and tournaments. Do the math
Well I have a team now that I run. We rep the U.S Military but its been kind of a pay as you go and no ones making money, but it has opened us up to lack of commitment from some parents. I think some don’t realize how much is in travel ball. Its dang near another full time job and at times cost me out of pocket. Some I think sill think its little league. So I think the only thing to do to make it work is to make it more like a business so I have the commitment from parents and I can put more time into it.
So let me throw this out there because I would really like to hear some feed back. Keep in mind I’m still new to coaching but definitely not to the game of baseball. I’ve been coaching for about 3 seasons. I had the opportunity to go to collage on a scholarship for football and baseball but had to pass it up because of personal reasons. So I don’t consider myself a pro coach by any means, but I also even though I am a dad don’t think of myself as a daddy ball coach either. To me daddy ball are guys who never played the game and use the coaching as a way to keep there kids playing as an all star. That’s just not me.
So here’s what I‘ve put together:
NJBL Spring, Summer, Fall or something equal too for season play. A Spring tournament at Ripken in Maryland local tournament between Spring/Summer A late Summer early Fall tournament at Ripken in Maryland
Home and Away Jerseys. Right now we wear the same camo jersey as the U.S Military All Star team. So our jerseys are heavy weight pro quality. We found it easier because of the high cost though the company that makes our jerseys to just have parents buy pants, belts, and socks. So that would be extra if through us. Matching hats and batting helmets with logo 12 weeks of indoor training starting in January at Performance Factory with pro instruction. We also do trophies at the end or the year.
Season play- appx. $500 to register Umpires- $55 per game; depending on age group either 1 or 2 umpires per game (figure 14-18 games per season) Ripken Tournament- $1,000 Local tournament- $600 Jerseys- quality jersey w/name,....$75 per Hat- $15 per Helmet- $35 per Training- 12 weeks figuring trainers every other week- $2,700
every team will do what works for them you can't compare some guys charge $500.00 and some $3000.00 you can buy a car from 20k to 200k what you want is what you pay for. Stop killing guys over price some programs warrent the money some dont do your homework and go
4.29 a gallon, boxes of balls @ $28, hot dogs @ $3.00, gatorade galore @ $2.00, BESR bats $150+, new glove $100+, etc. Watching your kid have the time of their life while making freinds from all over...PRICELESS !!

Demarini, Voodoo BBCOR High School Baseball Bat $299.99
we play at bbh and it cost 500 per season, cooperstown 1000, uniforms and jackets 125,tourney spring memorial and wood bat 250,indorr practice 1x week all year long,650.so as you see it's about 4000,plus side instructors if you do that.it can be costly but like the man said watching your kid on a good grade team is priceless, it's not little league ,kids actually make great plays and hit the ball where they are supposed to. the kids who can play ball a little better get much much more out of it and end up loving the game more.good luck and i like the military idea.

Go Catholic League!!! Wood bats at "only" $80 - $100!!!
At MLI you can pay $2000 for winter training and spring/smmers seasons coached by the kids parents. If you're unlucky enough to play for the U10 team you can watch the crazy coach fight with his kid, all while playing all of his friends kids the entire game. Translation: not worth the money.
it happens all the time with MLI...good group of guys running the place but they make the parents coach and there in lies the problem. If you are a father you are biased
Actually I wasn't picking on anyone. I was trying to find out some info. I really wanted to find some one to talk too that could kind of give me a heads up or at least see if I'm heading in the right direction. Usually in a normal society you ask questions to better help gain knowledge. But it seems on here its all about being bullied by anonymous douche bags. It’s a shame really…..
Best advice I could give you if your son is serious about baseball is to go to an organization with paid coaching. 90% of dad coached teams, even if they are good are run by lunatics or daddyballers. If your son has a goal of playing in college, get him in an organization like the Storm, Tigers or Titans as early as you can. Costs more, but worth every nickel

Spoking like a guy that run these organizations and make a living doing it. Most of these daddy ball coaches you're talking about have some of the best teams in LI, and don't compare to these paid coach teams. Yes you have some lunatics out there, both ways with organized teams as well as daddy ball coaches. My friends kid played for the Storm last year, and the coach never had a practice outsude and in the cage just did soft toss the whole time whenever the had time to practice with no instructional. Save your money and ask around and find that daddy ball coach.

Listen if your kid is good college coaches will find you!! there are only a hand full of good organizations that have good travel coaches. Guys for the titans storm jr quack quacks ducks tigers it's all about the $$$ for them!!! Have your son pick the schools that he likes then go to there work out/ camps. starting there jr year in high school it works!!! why pay thousands for nothing!!
So spend money on the schools camp? Those are fund raisers for the baseball program, and it is illegal to be worked out by a college team, know what your talking about before you speak.
These organizations might not be the right one for you but they do help and of you want to take the chance then fine but for many people they do help put a fit together.
I worked with a team and they helped both my sons, bottom line my boys can play ball and do have grades but they got us to schools we one never even thought of or really knew much about or the coach really wasn't responsive until they made the intro.
Hey just becasue a coach is paid doesn't mean he is a good coach and just becasue a coach is a dad doesn't mean he sucks. I've seen terrible paid coaches over the years who are just there to collect the check and then I have seen guys who are fathers who have a lot to offer. Hey if the Dad played some college ball and knows the game and can do the right thing who wouldnt want that guy?
Judge each coach on there own merits. Even paid coaches have their favorates just like school coaches so the daddy factor goes beyond having a kid on the team.

Thanks BeenAround I have been around this game a long time and this general rule that one thing works best for all situations just gets old judge each coach, team and player on an individual basis. This broad stroke approach benefits no one.
By the rule some apply on this website when Ken Griffy Jr. went to play where his dad was a coach that would be "Daddy Ball" see that sounds silly doesn't it! LOL
For the guy who says his friends kid played for the Storm doesn't know what he is talking about but my son's Storm team destroyed the competition in 15U last year. The Coaching was the best I have ever seen and I been around a long time. These boys did things on the field that other teams only dream about. And nothing wrong with writing to colleges but daddy ballers for the most part don't even know what Perfect Game is ( and I didn't say all there are a few good dad coaches) let alone get their team to Ga. Gee Sports at the Beach and BBH tourneys or Perfect Game, Impact World Series, Dynamic World Series and Canes Tourneys. The choice is clear YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
We've gone from the original thread title "Travel Ball Cost" to critiquing the LI Storm organization and now "Daddyball vs. Paid Coaching." These arguments hit a nerve on both sides. From my experience, almost all daddy coaches my sons had been involved with were primarily motivated in protecting and advancing the playing interests of their sons. There are rare exceptions to this patterned behavior, and I strongly suspect BeenAround to be one of them. At the 14U and above levels, paying the higher costs to larger organizations with paid coaches and extensive showcasing activities would be a better fit for the higher-tier players in spite of the higher costs.

Agreed. I also coached but gave it up after u13 to keep things and decisions independent. What I did do that many others don't do is put my kid in the outfield because it was a better fit for his style of play. All coaches sons grow up playing SS. Most don't belong there for the long run.
The money spent playing for a travel team INDEPENDENT of a parent coach's involvement is well worth it. There are a few exceptions here and there.
Hopefully there is a track record of exposure to coaches and colleges that the team can demonstrate. By demonstrate I mean talking to parents of former players, not relying on the website of a team. Many of the teams list a kid as being a "product" of their system if they only played one tournament with them, without the organization doing anything for them at all. Its easy to take credit for a scholarship, its not easy to get a kid onto the radar of a particular program. If you hear of a kid getting baseball money, ask the parent, to see who helped in the process. Don't ask the program.

If a player is only interested in focusing on pitching, and not other fielding positions or getting at-bats, is there a commonly accepted practice for travel baseball expenses to be less than other players?

The only common practice that I am aware of to make your son's travel baseball expenses less than other players is to buy your son a LAX stick. Works everytime.

If the team wants you. Like any other position, sometimes certain players get discounts.
Read thru this entire post and noboby really answered the main question. "How much does it cost and what do you get". Anyone know what it cost for a 13U on up player to play for any of these elite travel organizations for a year. (For example only with made up cost) MLI = $2000 includes spring, summer, paid coaching, indoor training etc etc etc. Does anyone know: MLI Titans Paveco Storm Breakers Ducks Express Mariners Whalers
