Any NJBL umpires out there? My question is, can a batter who was just walked overrun first base? If he does and is tagged, is he out?
My son's team played a team during this fall and the other team kept throwing the ball to first base after their pitcher gave up a base on balls. Now I found this kind of odd. Especially that they were doing it everytime a batter walked. If you can tag the runner and he is out, then I can understand why they did it the first time, but to continue to do it every inning and everytime a batter walks is a bit much. In my opinion, it's a bush league play. Something you would see in the movie "Bad News Bears".
Every play had to be some sort of trick play with this team. C'mon, are outs that hard to come by that they had to resort to that play over and over? And as they were at bat, everytime they got walked, they would run, non stop, directly to second base. Again, I understand, these are plays that can be used, but to run the same thing over and over all the time? BUSH !!! I for one, could never understand running straight to second base on a base on balls and risking being put out, when you could just steal second base on the very next pitch. Makes no sense.
Please clearify this for me. I asked a couple of umpires on the field and every one had a different answer.
