Even with a rule book these knuckleheads would still get it wrong.

Lol buy a rule book the funny part is and I [***censored***] you not a college recruitment coah in Arizona last year was looking in the rule book so he could argue that a tie goes to the runner.

The world is doomed lol this is a ture story! Not really a part of this thread but just a funny story the umpire told the coach you fine the rule then I will eat the book.

Any NJBL umpires out there? My question is, can a batter who was just walked overrun first base? If he does and is tagged, is he out?

My son's team played a team during this fall and the other team kept throwing the ball to first base after their pitcher gave up a base on balls. Now I found this kind of odd. Especially that they were doing it everytime a batter walked. If you can tag the runner and he is out, then I can understand why they did it the first time, but to continue to do it every inning and everytime a batter walks is a bit much. In my opinion, it's a bush league play. Something you would see in the movie "Bad News Bears".
Every play had to be some sort of trick play with this team. C'mon, are outs that hard to come by that they had to resort to that play over and over? And as they were at bat, everytime they got walked, they would run, non stop, directly to second base. Again, I understand, these are plays that can be used, but to run the same thing over and over all the time? BUSH !!! I for one, could never understand running straight to second base on a base on balls and risking being put out, when you could just steal second base on the very next pitch. Makes no sense.

Please clearify this for me. I asked a couple of umpires on the field and every one had a different answer.

I'm not an umpire but a 10u coach. I am assuming that they threw over just in case the baserunner rounded the base to either lead or to steal. You can "over run" first base on a walk without consequence.

You must be playing 60 foot bases or 75 foot at 90 feet they kid would be dead at second when you grow up and play real baseball come back and we will talk.

You can not over run first base on a walk. The things you are saying are all within the rules of baseball. seems these other teams are more advanced and aggressive than yours. Being able to defend these things are not that hard. As a coach you need to be familiar with all the rules. second i think the entire team should be paying attention on a walk. If he is going straight to second i think @ 9 players are sleeping then. Why disturb the batter when you are giving bases away? This doesn't sound like bush play to me. Sounds like a well coached and aggressive team. Bravo to them. Wait until you move up, you have seen nothing yet. Most teams that have this done to them are trying it the very next week on someone else. If you are not aggressive in travel ball you won't last. It's your job to defend, If your team is unable to defend the bunt then that is your issue. The other team bunting 11 times in a row is just being smart.

No reason for this comment, the guy is asking a legit question having to do with the age they are playing at, just because your kid now plays at 90 ' does not mean a thing. If you don't want to answer the question then don't. You act like your kid never played at that age. get over yourself. Your kid probably bombed out at 90' and your pissed.

No where in the rule book does it say that you cannot overrun first base, being it a walk or hit.
Can we get some umpire input into this topic.
Really dont wnt to hear from clueless parents or coaches.

The batter-runner in any case; hit or walk, is NOT REQUIRED to turn to the right when returning to first base. The runner is liable to be put out when tagged IF IN THE UMPIRE'S JUDGMENT, the runner MADE AN ATTEMPT to advance to second base.

Hit or Walk, you may overrun first base, as long as, IN THE UMPIRES JUDGEMENT, you didnt amke an attempt towards second base.
