Dont know much about fastpitch but have watched a few games (not local) and the game is very fast..I give the 3rd basemen a lot of kudos sorry basegirl or is it baseperson (want to be pc) as the older girls 15/16 can hit....team LI 97 went 7-0 in a 18U tourny, how do I know this just looking @ team web sites....the baseball discussions are so tired here, I wake and say the Cards, Prospects blah blah are the best 13 yr old teams...yes I know I need to get a life just sitting here eating my bagel and drinking my coffee on the computer....

How will they play 14U they could barely field a team at end of this season. They will be lucky to field a team next year, everyone has seen their act and it has gotten old fast. Anyone to go with them would be crazy.

Did everyone purchase their Texas Orange hats yet to once again get on the Franklin Square Colts fan bus? Town team, same players and BIGGER and BETTER than ever!! Good luck to all. By the way, the Bellmore Bengals will be a legit team this year.

Agreed both well coached teams always in their games...sure there may better teams on LI but they replace players....My sons team has played both teams over the years and had great games...

I think the best 14U teams are: Team LI98 (I agree you will not see Team LI97 playing 14U); LI Chargers; Sudden Impact; LAC Force and the Bandits.
I did hear that Team LI98 is going to spread their wings off of LI to play more competitive teams but then again that was just a rumor I heard and not really from a credible source.
Did someone actually put the Greyhounds in the same category as Team Long Island 97 and Nightmare 97? That's a good one!!
Lets see LI Greyhounds have qualified for 5 national tournaments have beat the nightmare have not played Team LI 97 lately and have beaten just about every team that they have played on LI at sometime. Sure they also lose but so does everybody. They have won there division in out of state tournaments as well as many LI tournaments with top teams in their division. They have won a 16u tournament this past summer so yes they are in the same class as Team LI 97 and Nightmare 97

It is hard for me to believe the the Greyhounds beat Nightmare 97. Maybe is was the Nightmare 98 team instead. In the same class as Team LI 97? You must be joking. There is not even a comparison between these two teams. If they were to play each other 10 times. TLI 97 would win 10 times with most of them ending in mercies.

Thats the problem with this site people are so bitter and angry. It was created to help and inform not to mock so Ill try and help...NJBL and USSA are two different travel leagues cant tell you what the level of play is, but some leagues have better teams...ASA (i would think) is a association American Softball Assoc. I dont have softball players and may be wrong...Hope someone can add to this and increase our knowledge...

What a jerky answer to a legitimate question on a forum. It took you just as much effort to write a snarky comment than to actually answer the question.

NJBL is an organization that runs leagues, usually the lower level fastpitch Softball teams participate.ASA,USSSA and Pony are softball organizations that run tournaments. Usually the more competitive teams participate in them.

Njbl is the largest of all the leagues. usssa is a very large league outside of long island but not very big here. BOS is the most competative league from the ages 14 to college level.baseball heaven league play is not very good because of the costs. two good teams in each age the rest play there because they have no fields. town of brookhaven same thing weak teams and strong teams same divsion.
If you need to ask that question then you really should get off this site.

It was not a jerky answer I believed the person who wrote this was the same person who wrote the derogatory comment about NJBL being such a great accomplishment. The person this was meant for believes that I was talking about NJBL when I was speaking about my daughters teams accomplishments. I know the differance between NJBL, USSSA, ASA, Triple Crown and a host of others.
Now to the person that commented on my baseball knowledge maybe you should read the thread you are on before you comment. This is about GIRLS FASTPITCH SOFTBALL not baseball.
And to the idiots out there that have to put down a team go F yourself you will never see me talk bad about a team or the young girls that play on the team I might at times give my opinion on the way the team plays or whether a team is of a, b or c caliber.
Blight 61 I apologize for the short answer I did not read who posted it and just assumed it was someone else. NJBL here on Long Island has some very good competition but most teams use it as practice or warm up games for ASA, USSSA or others. There are times where you are playing another A travel team and other times you are playing a Little League team which wants to get into travel.
ASA is probably the most well known league and has some very good tournaments if you play in an ASA tournament you want to play in a qualifier so you can advance to a national tournament. The same goes for USSSA and PONY. USSSA is up and coming in the area and they have a national tournament held at ESPN in Orlando which was a lot of fun. PONY has their National in North Carolina and another in Utah I think. We had a bad experience at the Triple Crown Nationals in Myrtle Beach and have not played in any Triple Crown events since.
Which ever you chose to play in the competition is usually very good and once you leave NY the competition is very very good but the only way for the girls to get really good and have a chance at a scholarship is to play against better players.
We are at a disadvantage here in NY as our girls only play games outside April through November and the girls down south are playing games outside year round.
Good luck to all this winter with your training and next season on the field.
We were there for the 12U Nationals there were not alot of teams that had signed up and we were sitting in 3rd place after the pool play was over. It had rained on the first day of elimination and they cancelled the day of play (it stopped raining about 10am or so. That night they decided to cancel the remaining portion of the 12U tournament saying they did not have enough fields to finish the tournament on the following day. They took the standings as they were and ended the tournament. The following day I drove to all the fields and found mutliple dry fields with nobody playing on them. We could have finished our tournament like the 14 and 16u teams did.

I am assuming you are referring to Team LI 97 not the 98's because I know the 98's aren't playing 18U teams, if you said 16U for the 98's then that is a different story and no my kid isn't on either team!! Any team can get beaten on any given day so it will be interesting to see how the spring season plays out. This is a very interesting age they are all still learning and maturing into better players so who knows what will happen in the coming season.

I would have to say of that list TLI98 should be number one with LI Bandits McGinley being number two and the LI Greyhounds number four. Forget about the LI Wave they don't go to any "outside" tournaments only play the ones they host. They really haven't been tested and their younger 14u team needs to beef up their pitching, most of the pitchers they have are weak and can't really go up against the older 14u's. It will be interesting to see how the LI teams do against one and other.

Which Wave team are you talking about? I have heard neither team plays competitive teams on long island. They choose who they want to play because they want to beat up on the weaker teams and when challenged to play the more competitive teams they decline.

So true about the Wave, my daughter's team has played both Wave team and the older team has the better pitchers and you never do see them play at other tournaments outside of the ones they host. Then there is one of the coaches wives who acts like a lunatic anytime the team is losing a game and other parents on the other teams have said the same thing she is a distraction to the game. Play some real competitive softball and actually prove that you are as good as you think you are.

WOW that is a broad statement!! That would be a fact if they did indeed play against all the teams in New York but since I don't think they have played all the teams in New York you really can't make that statement. Also, let's see how they do when they are off of New York, Jersey teams aren't slackers and can give TLI98 some major competition. But isn't that what it's all about finding the better teams and competing against them. The exposure to other teams that are better than yours is what gives them the exposure they need to become elite level players. The season is young anything can happen.

TLI 98 is definitely a top team in NY, but upstate they have some good teams too. The Dutchess Debs and the Hudson Valley Hurricanes Black team can give TLI 98 a game. I think the Debs may have beat TLI before. The hurricanes black schedule is pretty tough too. They should be good comp for TLI98. I think at all ages TLI seem to do well though. TLI 97 when playing 14u could really be the best team in NY at 14u though.

I think that there will be many surprises this summer with regards to the different softball teams. Some will get better while others will most likely fold for lack of players. This is a tricky age, this is when the girls that choose to play softball continue on and the girls who choose not to play anymore drop out. I hope that all the teams enjoy good competitive games that push them to be the best that they can be. Good luck to all the girls!
