Duke freshman Marcus Stroman became the second player in school history to earn ACC Freshman of the Year honors.

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke two-way infielder Marcus Stroman was named ACC Freshman of the Year in the All-ACC poll voted on by the league's coaches.

A 5-9, 185 pound native of Medford, N.Y. (Patchogue-Medford), Stroman made an immediate impact for the Blue Devils (29-27, 8-22 ACC) as the starting second baseman and a key arm on the pitching staff. At the plate, Stroman batted .265 with 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs while stealing 11 bases in 14 attempts. On the mound, he led Duke with a 6-4 record while posting a 5.31 ERA with a team-leading 64 strikeouts in 57.2 innings.

An 18th round draft selection by the Washington Nationals out of high school, Stroman tagged 44 hits in his inaugural season while scoring 26 runs and driving in 20 RBI. As Duke's starting second baseman, he turned 26 of the team's 48 double plays and made just one error over his final 15 games. Stroman also led the team with 144 assists.

Additionally, Stroman stole four bases in a March 9 win over Quinnipiac, which was the most steals in a game by any ACC player in 2010.

On the mound, Stroman made 12 relief appearances and recorded three saves before joining the weekend rotation for the final four weeks of the season. As a starter, Stroman went 2-2 with a 6.28 ERA through five starts and walked just nine batters in 28.2 innings. Included in that run was a nine-inning complete game win against Wake Forest in which he struck out a career-high 10 hitters while surrendering just two earned runs.

Stroman becomes only the second Blue Devil in school history to receive ACC Freshman of the Year honors, joining Jeff Becker who won the award in 1996. Stroman is now headed to the nationally-renowned Cape Cod Baseball League where he will play for the Orleans Cardinals this summer.

Miami's Yasmani Grandal was named the ACC Player of the Year, while Virginia sophomore Danny Hultzen was tabbed ACC Pitcher of the Year and Virginia head coach Brian O'Connor was named ACC Coach of the Year.
